does stainless steel tarnish?

tarnish is what happens when the metal in a piece reacts with air, moisture, and skin — the dullness or dark edge that creeps into silver and cheap plating after a few wears. solid stainless steel doesn’t do this. it’s the reason the edit is built on it.

why steel holds its colour

stainless steel keeps a thin, stable surface that doesn’t oxidise the way silver or copper alloys do. so a steel stud or bangle looks the same in month six as it did on day one — no green marks, no darkening, no re-plating.

about the gold-tone pieces

some pieces carry a gold-tone finish over the steel — the cuffs, the bangle, a few of the drops. the steel underneath still won’t tarnish, but a surface finish rewards a little care: put perfume and lotion on before the jewellery, not after, and wipe it gently when you take it off.
