is stainless steel jewellery waterproof?

the short answer: stainless steel holds up to water far better than plated brass or silver, which is why most of the edit is built on it.

what water-resistant really means

the stainless steel pieces — the studs, the drops, the cuffs and bangles — keep their colour through sweat, rain, the sea, the pool, and the shower. the steel doesn’t react with water the way softer metals do, so it doesn’t spot, turn, or fade after an afternoon by the water.

that isn’t the same as “leave it on forever.” salt and chlorine are hard on any finish over time. a quick rinse in fresh water and a wipe with a soft cloth after the sea keeps a piece looking new for longer.

the exception: the beaded pairs

two pairs are different — riviera drops and amalfi drops. these are woven from tiny glass beads, and beadwork prefers to stay dry. wear them through a long dinner, not into the pool. each one says “keep dry, store flat” in its description for exactly this reason.

a simple rule
